Richard Brereton, who lives in Bristol, UK, has authored around 450 publications ranging from short webbased articles to texts. These are mainly academic in nature including seven books, three of which he edited and four which he wrote himself. He has also edited and contributed to professional newsletters and journal news sections. He is a scientist by trade, with wide ranging interests, including chemistry, computing and statistics with wide applications to pharmacy, biology, forensics, environment, medicine, and cultural heritage. He has a PhD, MA and BA from Cambridge, is a Chartered Chemist, and Fellow of the Royal Societies of Chemistry, Statistics and Medicine. He is the member of editorial boards of several journals.

He has travelled widely in Europe, Asia and America, having visited over 40 countries, including Russia, China, India, Brazil, US, the Middle East, South East Asia, and most European countries, and is much interested in international culture and history especially how different countries and cultures have mingled over the centuries. He is also a property investor and has personal interests in the rental market, owning 14 properties in Bristol and London. He has experience of the UK court system and interest in forensic science having appeared as an expert witness in many cases including the UK High Court and Court of Appeal. He is an accredited expert.
